The UK Scene

The English scene is one of the fastest around. This is because most groups are on 9600 (the good ones) and have AT&T numbers, or at least know guys that do. Stuff gets lame very quickly in the U.K, due to the speed of the modemers, when stuff is 3 days old it becomes too embarasing to send out to other groups.

The U.K. is probably the worst on the scene for demos, which is a shame because it is the demos which make a particular scene stand out from another. I mean how many times have you said something like "The U.K.? Oh! You mean the place where the fast spreads come from!". NEVER!! You are much more likely to say "SWEDEN? - The place where the demos come from!".

The only groups who release descent demos are SAE/SCX and SLIPSTREAM. Excel and Pseudo-Ops also do a bit of coding, but not enough. Some other groups do occasional demos, but they are generally shit, full of shit (Scroll-text), or coded by many seperate groups under one name. Despite a scene report from someone else, there is nothing wrong with the English post. I live in the North of England, and it never takes more than one day for a package to be delivered from London.

Infact it's so good that it can get to Europeian countries in ONE day! E.g. Post Monday - Arrive in Denmark on Tuesday. The problem is that you must post your package for the 7:30 am post so it is not really that useful. England does not have as many copy parties as other countries. The next copy party will be in March 1990 by Quartex/Oracle/SAE. It promises to be a good one. The U.K also cracks and trainers plenty of games. The best at this (in order of my own opinion) are:- Oracle, Slipstream, Accumulators, SAE. Some other English groups crack games, but they don't do enough to deserve much credit. This is how I see the U.K scene at the end of 1989:

1: Oracle
2: Accumulators
3: SAE
4: Slipstream
5: Excel
6: Crysis
7: Pseudo-ops
8: Magnetic Fields

Eclispse and Tartan Army don't get a mention because they have not done anything for a long time. From the fifth position the ratings don't count so much because all these groups are basicly the same level. I suppose we should go somewhere in the top 10, but I'm not brave enough to say where! (numbers 8,9 or 10, I don't suppose where any worse than that.) I hope I haven't offended anyone too much, I know everyone likes to get mentioned!!! See ya'll at the 16 Bit Show!
